Albéric, le roi des Nibelungen, a forgé un anneau en or céleste. Un anneau au pouvoir si grand, qu’il est capable de faire plier toute chose à sa volonté.
Wotan, le Père des Dieux, s'en empare afin de libérer la déesse Idunn. Mais il est alors frappé par la malédiction des Nibelungen.
Pour s'en défaire, il partage la couche de femmes mortelles. De ces unions naissent Siegmund et sa soeur, Siegliende, eux aussi porteurs du feu noir de l'anneau.
Alors qu’elle fuit, Sieglinde trouve refuge dans un village à la frontière de Midgard. Les mois s'écoulent paisiblement, mais la malédiction poursuit sont chemin, implacable. Alors que l'hiver arrive, des créatures venues de Jotunheim envahissent les montagnes. Sieglinde se retrouve contrainte de se battre pour que l'enfant qu'elle porte survive. Elle a déjà choisi son nom. Ce sera Siegfried.

Wotan, the Father of the Gods, wrests it from him, but is then struck by the curse of the Nibelungen. In an attempt to escape the curse, he sleeps with mortal women and from these unions are born Siegmund and his sister, Sieglinde.
Fleeing, Sieglinde finds refuge in a village on the frontier of Midgard and has to struggle so that the child she is carrying might live. She has already chosen his name: he will be called Siegfried.
